Alba amicorum, as objects, but also as active participants in numerous connections, played an integral role in building interpersonal relations, becoming a kind of social media. Emotions as the diverse factor which brought people together caused many Polish students to form close friendships with other students or their professors. They thus entered their colleagues' friendship albums and began to live in a common 'emotional community'. They therefore entered a group loyal to certain values, ways of feeling and expressing emotions.

The aim of the paper is therefore to investigate the 'emotional community' of Polish students who formed intellectual and affective friendships during their studies in Basel. These were reflected in the expression of their emotions on the pages of their friendship albums. By analysing the entries of the Poles in their friendship albums from the seventeenth century, it will be possible to determine what linguistic means, affective forms of expression they used to express their feelings (or absence of those) and how they represented their inner emotional life in writing whilst living on a foreign country.
