Call for Papers

The ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions calls for expressions of interest to be part of its farewell two-day Symposium, ‘Past and Future Emotions’, to be held from 28–29 November 2022 at The University of Melbourne, as part of the 2022 Congress of HASS.

The purpose of the symposium is to celebrate the many achievements of emotions research associated with CHE while seeking contributions that lend themselves to discussion about future directions in emotions research in the humanities.

Organisers welcome Expressions of Interest for papers, roundtables, workshops, panels, lightning talks, and posters on the theme of Past and Future Emotions (broadly conceived).

We encourage proposals from current and former CHE Node Leaders, Program Leaders and Cluster Organisers.

Proposals for conference papers and posters should consist of:

  1. A title
  2. An abstract (max. 200 words)
  3. Type of presentation (i.e. 20-minute paper, 5-minute lightning talk, poster presentation)
  4. A short biography (max. 50 words)

The conference committee welcomes themed panel or workshop session proposals for the conference. Proposals should consist of:

  1. Panel/Workshop Title
  2. Proposed Chair (if available)
  3. Details of each presenter and paper as described above

Please send proposals in Word Document format to Dr Marina Gerzic, National Administrative Officer for the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions at emotions@uwa.edu.au by 12 July 2022. Please note this is an extended deadline.

Travel Bursaries

A limited number of travel bursaries will be available for presenters to attend the Symposium. The amount of funding available, and hence the number of bursaries funded, will be determined by the Symposium organising committee after they have considered all the applications.

To apply for a bursary please send an email titled 2022 CHE Symposium Bursary Applications to emotions@uwa.edu.au with the following information included in a Word document attached to the email (please do not send these details directly in the email itself).

  1. Title and Abstract of paper to be presented at the Symposium
  2. A short budget (no more than 1/2 page) detailing the cost of attending the conference
  3. Details of any other sources of funding
