Bring out your pearls!
The City of Subiaco invites you to the opening of the Subiaco Museum’s new boutique exhibition, 'Lustrous Bodies: Pearl and Pearl-Shell Adornment in Twentieth-Century Subiaco'.
Pearls and pearl shells have been prized for their natural radiance and rarity throughout history and across different cultures. Utilising the museum collection and with contributions from Linneys and Subiaco Antiques and Fine Jewellery, Lustrous Bodies illuminates how material culture historically shapes our identities and our social lives in a community. At the heart of the exhibition are Subiaco residents and businesses, past and present, and their stories. From buttons to brooches, camisoles and collar studs, incised pearl shells from the Kimberley region and original sketches from the Linneys collection, the exhibition displays the history of the city as a dynamic hub of sociability, fashion, politics and business in Western Australia.
Following an opening address by Mayor Penny Taylor and guest talks by Alan Linney and Professor Andrew Lynch, guests will be invited to take a tour of the exhibition, led by Museum Co-Ordinator Rosemary Fitzgerald and Museum Officer Jordan Lavers.
Food and beverages will be provided.
This event is supported by Linneys, Museums Australia, the City of Subiaco and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions.
