Bushfires have been part of the Australian experience since early colonial times. In this workshop, participants explore texts and artworks about fire from 1845 through to the present day, asking questions about the changing emotional meanings of fire through our South Australian history.
We’ll read old newspapers, letters, and stories, look at paintings, and even listen to a dramatic soundscape, to explore how Australians have felt about bushfires since 1845. We’ll talk about community, mateship, fear and bravery, and meet some real firefighters.
