South Australian wines have distinct personalities and vibrant family histories. Every time we open a bottle we share in this heritage, create new memories and add to the story. As part of South Australia’s History Festival, the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (Europe 1100–1800) at The University of Adelaide offers you the unique opportunity to hear expert research on our local wine regions. How were family and community identities built around winemaking in the past, and how do these traditions continue in the present day? How do winemakers understand their relationship with the vines, the land and South Australian culture, and how do they communicate this to customers? How does wine branding affect our choices? What is the appeal of the cellar door experience, and how is this created?
Join us to hear three short papers from The University of Adelaide researchers:
Professor Barbara Santich (History)
‘Palimpsests and Past Identities of McLaren Vale’
Dr William Skinner (Anthropology)
‘Cultivating Memory: Old Vines and Heritage’
Dr Steven Goodman (Marketing)
‘Making and Marketing Wine Memories’
Event chair: Dr Amy Milka
