Catherine Czerw is an Honorary Associate Investigator (AI 2012‒2013) with the ARC Centre for the History of Emotions, and an independent curator and visual arts consultant who provides professional advice and assistance across a range of visual art activities including the curation of exhibitions for permanent and temporary display, visual arts writing and collection management advice for private, corporate and local government entities. Catherine’s main areas of interest lie in Australian modern and contemporary art and artists and cross-disciplinary opportunities between the visual arts and museum practice more broadly. Catherine completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at The University of Melbourne and after a lengthy period of travel and work across Europe, the UK and Canada, she gained a Graduate Diploma of Heritage Studies from Curtin University with a major in Curatorship. She has since held curatorial positions at New Norcia Museum and Art Gallery and Mundaring Arts Centre, and developed and presented exhibitions for Ellenbrook Arts, Linton and Kay Gallery and Bunbury Regional Art Galleries. Catherine has curated the Cossack Art Awards as well as two ART ON THE MOVE touring exhibitions: ‘Mine Own Executioner’, a survey of contemporary Western Australian self-portraiture, and ‘A Desire to Relate’, a retrospective of the late WA artist David Gregson.
